Book Review

Reviewed on 05/27/2017 https://readersfavorite.com/book-review/my-dad-couldnt-read Reviewed by Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite Life can be challenging, especially if you are unable to understand it. My Dad Couldn't Read by Carey Rigby-Wilcox is a children’s short story about a father who couldn't read. Even though this is a children’s book, it's ideal for adults as well. My Dad Couldn't Read is about inspiration, perseverance and motivation, and will inspire you to move forward with your fears and life challenges. My Dad Couldn't Read is based upon the personal accounts of Carey Rigby-Wilcox’s life. The story has a happy ending because it displays that, with the right tools and help, you can read and enjoy a more fulfilling life. I loved reading My Dad Couldn't Read by Carey Rigby-Wilcox because I fully understand that learning can be frustrating. It must be understood that everyone learns differently. The current routine school environment and learning structure are not designed for every learning style. With the introduction of the common core formula, learning will become more confusing and cause division between children and parents because they will be speaking different languages. In My Dad Couldn't Read, the young boy's dad felt in school that people were against him, but in actuality it was his shame and frustrations that caused his hindrance. In most cases we aren't the only ones feeling these types of inadequacies; others are as well. It is unfortunate that these emotions caused his dad to just give up and drop out of school. But it was wonderful to see that together father and son were able to grow, encourage, and support each other during this trial and time of life.
